Four Easy Ways To Cut Down On Unwanted Mail

  1. Join the Mailing Preference Service (MPS) this will stop personally addressed unsolicited mail.
  2. Royal Mail Door-to-Door. By ‘opting out’ you will stop unaddressed mailings from businesses and organisations. However by choosing this ‘opt out’ scheme you may miss out on important central government and local government information but this can usually be viewed on-line. Address: Royal Mail Door-to-Door Opt Outs, Kingsmead House, Oxpens Road, Oxford OX1 1RX.
  3. Put a ‘No Junk Mail’ notice on your mailbox to discourage individuals delivering door to door promotional materials.

See, I would never advise anyone to opt-out of Royal Mail's Door to Door service because the fact is that it helps subsidise stamp prices. Without Door to Door Royal Mail would loose a lot of money; they'd have to make it up either charging more for stamps and services for people, or neglecting people and concentrating in business customers.

We cut out junk mail and I reckon we've stopped about 80% of it coming through our door. I understand that it MAY subsidise postal costs, but we do have to look at the cost to the environment too.

When our neighbour goes away and we take her mail or table is almost groaning under the weight of all the stuff she gets. You soon forget just how much comes through the door every day.
